"Another beautiful wheat crop!" So says Martin Maartens, Pannar's representative in Bultfontein of PAN 3161 planted by the Willemse-Nel Boerdery of the farm Beyersfontein between Bultfontein and Hertzogville. The PAN 3161 was planted at 18 kg of seed per hectare from 4 to 12 May. In these beautiful photos of PAN 3161, you can see how well the cultivar is stooling. PAN 3161 is a true winter type wheat cultivar, which is well adapted to all the dryland production areas in the Free State. It has exceptional seedling vigour and standability. PAN 3161's seedlings grow vigorously and are a good choice on fields with a risk of wind damage. The cultivar shows good tolerance against Russian Wheat Aphid.
Pannar's dryland wheat package consists of true winter and intermediate type wheat cultivars. In addition to PAN 3161, PAN 3111 is also a true winter type that has a high yield potential, a short straw length, excellent standability and good tolerance to aluminium. In the intermediate growth period, the new cultivar PAN 3373, which replaces PAN 3368, is recommended as a good choice for later plantings in all the dryland production areas of the Western and Eastern Free State.
