Deon Bresler is Impressed by his PAN 5R-591R Planting

Deon Bresler's PAN 5R-591R looks nothing short of impressive. He farms near Bultfontein and planted the PAN 5R-591R in 0.5m rows at a plant population of 38 000 plants per hectare. Martin Maartens, Pannar's representative in the Bultfontein/Wesselsbron area, says that PAN 5R-591R produces a strong seedling and it is very prolific.

PAN 5R-591R is a medium-early hybrid with glyphosate herbicide tolerance. This platform also includes PAN 5A-291, PAN 5B-491B and PAN 5R-891BR. It is the strongest prolific platform in the white hybrid range and is well adapted under dryland in the western production areas. The platform is a very good choice at lower plant populations and produces a robust plant and a strong root system. Combined with its very strong prolificacy, these hybrids are very well adapted to production conditions where rainfall tends to vary over seasons. They tolerate drought stress well and under good production conditions, can compensate by producing a fully-fledged second cob, thus producing a full crop.
