JC Bam Saaiboerdery PAN 7080 Sunflower

Martin Martins, Pannar's representative in the Bultfontein district, talked to Christiaan and his father Kobus Bam about their beautiful sunflowers. JC Bam Saaiboerdery is located in the Wesselsbron district. Christiaan and Kobus planted PAN 7080 for a plant stand of 45 000 plants per hectare.

Christiaan briefly described his cultivation programme:

• The seed was treated with SUPRECEDE GRAPHITE, which also contains Micro-elements namely Mo, P and ZN, as well as Trichoderma;
• The herbicide was RACER 450ml/ha and ALACHLOR 2l/ha;
• The insecticide LAMDA was sprayed and during planting, TERFOS was applied to control nematodes and other insects.

Christiaan applies fungicide twice as standard practice. As a fungicide, he uses EVITO T, which he sprays when the plants are between knee and hip height (the spray is mainly to increase the yield). At the flower bud growth stage, the second fungicide spray is applied with AROXY at 400ml and DEFENDER at 300ml per hectare. With the second spray, OPTIM MOB is also applied at 1l/ha (Boron and Molybdenum).

Fertiliser is applied at 200kg 15-10-6 (31) per ha with plant and a top dressing is applied with 150kg/ha Greensulf (26% ammonium nitrate) – both from Omnia.
