In the North West, with its predominant red soils, crops are thriving this season with the higher-than-normal rainfall. Pieter Geldenhuys, Pannar's representative for the Ventersdorp area, shared these promising maize and sunflower crops from HOTSPOT AGRI in his area. The more mature maize is white hybrid PAN 4R-811BR and the younger maize is PAN 5R-591R. PAN 4R-811BR was planted on 10 November at 45 000 plants per hectare. The sunflower plantings consist of PAN 7102CLP and PAN 7160CLP. Both are Clearfield® Plus hybrids planted at 50,000 plants per hectare on 26 October.
HOTSPOT AGRI's white maize package also includes PAN 5R-891BR and PAN 6R-879BR. All the stacked gene hybrids have second-generation stalk borer resistance genes. PAN 4R-811BR is an early hybrid that is very well adapted to the eastern production region and to high potential conditions. PAN 5R-591R and PAN 5R-891BR are medium-early hybrids that are very well adapted in the western production areas. Both are very strongly prolific – an important characteristic for a maize hybrid in the western parts to be able to compensate if high potential conditions are experienced. PAN 6R-879BR is a medium hybrid that does particularly well in the west. This package offers very good risk hedging.

The two sunflower hybrids PAN 7102CLP and PAN 7160CLP with the Clearfield® Plus gene, are the first-choice hybrids for Northwest. These hybrids provide an alternative choice for weed control and maintain an excellent yield performance record in commercial plantings and the national trials.
