Through play, children cultivate a love for farming

Through play, children subconsciously develop a love for the environment, plants and animals, without really realising that this is where food comes from. Here, Kari and Geruan Groenewald are playing next to a maize field near Hertzogville, while Hannelie Tait, Pannar's representative in Hoopstad, harvests a P3 white and yellow maize trial. Also photographed here is Roelof van Wyk playing with the children in the soil.

Farming is close to our hearts. It requires enthusiasm, dedication, perseverance, resilience and hard work – regardless of what nature and life throws our way. Farmers proudly till the land, grow crops and raise livestock to provide work and food for millions. On any given day a farmer is much more than just a farmer, he is also a veterinarian, botanist, mechanic, accountant, marketing expert and high-stakes risk manager – not to mention a family member and friend. Farmers are respected businessmen and valued individuals in their community who lovingly preserve the environment for our future generations.

Thank you farmers.
